Session Fees and Insurance

Clients in Virginia and Arizona

I work with clients who live in Arizona or Virginia and have Aetna or Optum (UnitedHealthcare) insurance through the Alma platform (Alma — Simplifying Access to Therapy). If you qualify, Alma handles your claims, copays, and payments directly.

If you are not using Alma—or have a different insurance plan—you are still welcome to work with me as a private-pay client. My fee is $200 for a standard 53-minute psychotherapy appointment. I accept debit and credit cards, including HSA/FSA cards.

If I am not in-network with your insurance, you can request a superbill (a detailed receipt) that you may submit to your insurance company to explore out-of-network reimbursement.

Clients in Other States (PSYPACT)

Because I have the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology through the PSYPACT Commission, I can see clients located in any of the 43 participating PSYPACT states via telehealth.

Please note:

  • If you live in another PSYPACT state, therapy would be private pay. You can request a superbill to submit to your insurance, but many insurance companies do not reimburse for out-of-state providers. It’s best to call your plan directly to check on this.

Couples Therapy and Insurance

Most insurance plans do not cover couples therapy. This is because insurance typically covers treatment of an individual’s mental health diagnosis. When the relationship itself is the focus of treatment, it is considered non-medical and not billable to insurance. As a result, couples therapy is almost always private pay, regardless of your insurance plan.

Other Services

Psychotherapy is the main service I offer. I do not conduct psychological evaluations or write formal reports for surgeries, FMLA, or other accommodations. If you request additional administrative services—such as consultation with other providers, paperwork, or involvement with a legal issue —I charge $200/hour, billed in 15-minute increments. For example, a 30-minute task would be billed at $100. I’ll always discuss these costs with you ahead of time.

Late Cancellations and No-Shows

Please note that I charge $150 for late cancellations (within 24 hours of the scheduled session) or missed appointments. This policy helps ensure that appointment times are respected and available to others.

No Surprises Act – Good Faith Estimate

  • You can request an estimate at any time.

  • If the actual cost exceeds the estimate by $400 or more, you may have the right to dispute the bill.
